GreenYellow Austral helps LightPath to reduce its carbon footprint
GreenYellow South Africa has announced a partnership with Lightpath to install an innovative rooftop solar system on the Hilton Siding shopping center in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
This emblematic project, which includes a 432 kWp solar panel installation and a 916 kWh battery storage system, marks a significant turning point in South Africa’s transition to sustainable energy.
Work on this project will start in August and be completed in October, with the aim of transforming the Hilton Siding shopping center into a more environmentally-friendly venue. Hilton Siding is not only a popular shopping destination for local shoppers, with well-known names such as Checkers, Clicks and Seattle Coffee Co.
The project will be carried out under a 20-year PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), offering Hilton Siding stable and predictable energy costs for the next two decades. This long-term approach underlines GreenYellow’s positioning as an energy partner for its clients.
Financial benefits
The PV plants and battery storage system ensure not only stable energy costs, but also a reduction in consumption peaks, which impact on the shopping center’s energy loads. In the event of a grid failure, the battery will take over for two hours, guaranteeing continuity of operations and minimizing interruptions.
What’s more, the initial investment required to implement this project is borne by GreenYellow, enabling Hilton Siding to devote its budget to its core business.
Environmental benefits
In environmental terms, this project makes a significant contribution to Hilton Siding’s decarbonization objectives. It reduces pressure on the power grid and helps reduce the mall’s carbon footprint, while offering a reliable and sustainable solution to the region’s energy challenges.
Our Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution
This project represents GreenYellow South Africa’s third BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) deployment. It reflects the growing need for solutions to the country’s frequent load shedding. The BaaS model offers greater flexibility and reliability, essential for managing current and future energy challenges.
GreenYellow South Africa and Lightpath are positioning themselves as key players in South Africa’s energy revolution. This partnership marks an important step towards a more sustainable and reliable future for the BtoB sector.
