GreenYellow Austral inaugurates its 14MWp Arsenal solar farm in Mauritius

GreenYellow, a leader in solar photovoltaics in the Indian Ocean with expertise in over 120 MWp developed and built, announces the launch of its new zone, AUSTRAL, marked by the inauguration of the 14 MWp Arsenal photovoltaic power plant.

“As part of the company’s geographic repositioning, the consolidation of the Indian Ocean and South African subsidiaries into the new “GreenYellow AUSTRAL” zone demonstrates GreenYellow’s commitment to the energy transition in regions where its platform of decarbonation offerings generates the most significant impact,” emphasized Otmane Hajji, President of GreenYellow, during his inaugural speech.

The Arsenal power plant, with an installed capacity of 14 MWp, began construction following GreenYellow’s success in the Central Electricity Board (CEB) tender for 2021. Prepared to inject 20 GWh of green energy annually into the grid, it will play a significant role in Mauritius’s energy transition, notably getting back to the electricity needs of almost 4,500 Mauritian households every year.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Georges Pierre LESJONGARD, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, demonstrating the authorities’ support for the country’s energy transition and renewable energies.

GreenYellow has become an important partner for CEB since it began operating in the Indian Ocean some fifteen years ago. The Arsenal solar farm is its second project on the island, following the 16 MWp Solitude project. It’s a very encouraging step towards our goal of achieving 60% renewable energy in our energy mix. The investment, particularly from abroad, shows that the government’s ambition is highly achievable.” Georges Pierre Lesjongard, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities.

With this new project, GreenYellow is making a concrete contribution to Mauritius’s objectives of achieving 35% of electricity from renewable sources by 2025 and 60% by 2030.

In addition, this large-scale project has benefited from the trust and financial support of Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd (MCB) to the tune of 350 million rupees (around 7.2 million euros), a key partner of GreenYellow in the energy transition.

Thierry Hebraud, CEO, MCB Ltd: “MCB is proud to support Mauritius’ energy transition by financing major green energy projects, such as the Arsenal solar farm. This collaboration with GreenYellow, a key player in the Indian Ocean energy transition, and the Central Electricity Board, underlines our commitment to helping the country achieve its energy diversification ambitions.”

GreenYellow expresses its gratitude to the Central Electricity Board (CEB), the Economic Development Board (EDB), the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agro-industry, the Utilities Regulatory Authority (URA), the Land Drainage Authority (LDA), the Road Development Authority (RDA), the Pamplemousses District Council and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), the landowners and its dedicated team, whose efforts have made this project a reality.
