GreenYellow will build the first self-consumption solar plant for mining company ARIS MINING

GreenYellow, a leader in the decentralized energy transition, has signed a strategic agreement with Aris Mining, a major player in gold mining in Colombia, for the construction of its first self-consumption solar park. This innovative project will be located in the municipality of Segovia, in the state of Antioquia, at the heart of Aris Mining’s operations.

With an installed capacity of 2 MWp, the solar plant will enable Aris Mining to cover 12% of its annual energy needs, with an estimated production of 3.4 GWh per year. This project is a key milestone in the company’s energy transition, in line with global sustainability trends. Aris Mining, which currently operates four mines in northeastern Antioquia with an annual production of around 220,000 ounces of gold, aims to double this production in the coming years while reducing its environmental impact.

The initiative results in an annual reduction of 516 tons of CO2, thus contributing to the fight against climate change. This step reinforces the transition to clean, local and responsible energy in the mining sector, while setting a precedent for possible future collaborations between GreenYellow Colombia and other industrial companies in the country.

A strengthened social commitment

The project is also part of a social responsibility approach, that directly benefits local communities. For several years, Aris Mining has been leading initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the residents of Segovia and Remedios. These actions include: improving the infrastructure of educational institutions and roads, providing training and scholarships to residents, planting trees to strengthen local biodiversity, and promoting gender equality and local productive projects.

In addition, Aris Mining supports mining formalization through coexistence agreements with small-scale miners, which help integrate these workers into a legal and secure framework. This solar park, by combining technological innovation and positive social impact, strengthens the company’s commitment to promoting more sustainable and responsible practices while generating tangible benefits for the community.

This project is part of GreenYellow’s #SHIFTProduction initiative, which aims to optimize energy models in energy-intensive industrial sectors. This strategic alliance between Aris Mining and GreenYellow Colombia marks a significant step forward in the diversification of Colombia’s energy matrix and contributes to the energy transition process supported by the national government.
