GreenYellow and Sasol Italy inaugurate the start of construction
of a 5.1 MWp solar plant in Terranova Dei Passerini

An emblematic project to accelerate the energy transition
and strengthen the energy independence of Italian industry.

subsidiary of the multinational group specializing in the chemical and energy sectors, have inaugurated the start of construction of a new photovoltaic solar plant in the municipality of Terranova dei Passerini (province of Lodi, Lombardy). With an installed capacity of 5.1 MWp, this facility marks a key milestone in Sasol Italy’s sustainability and energy independence strategy.

A high-impact economic and environmental project

Located on land owned by Sasol Italy,

the plant, with a total installed capacity of 5.1 MWp, will be developed under a tailor-made, turnkey Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This model will allow Sasol Italy to benefit from green, local and competitive electricity thanks to favorable and stable economic conditions over time. The corporate will be able to consume the electricity produced directly on-site, manage any surplus, and benefit from guaranteed availability throughout the duration of the contract.

The site is scheduled to be commissioned in the second half of 2026. At full capacity, the plant will produce +7.6 GWh per year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of more than 2,800 Italian households. This production will avoid the emission of more than 4,000 tons of CO₂ per year, thus contributing concretely to the climate objectives of Sasol and Italy.

The project has also benefited from the contribution of EEMAXX INNOVATION, a partner involved from the design phase and in managing the permitting process prior to construction.

An innovative model to accelerate the energy transition of manufacturers

“This project marks another important milestone in our energy transition journey and confirms our commitment to collaborate with partners such as GreenYellow to implement our sustainability strategy at Sasol Italy and achieve our emissions reduction targets at our Italian industrial sites.” underlines Sebastiano Durante, Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing Energy & Emissions at Sasol Italy.

Present at the project launch, Rolando Furlong, General Manager of GreenYellow Europe, adds: “This project perfectly embodies our vision: making the energy transition accessible and sustainable for corporates. Italy is a strategic market for GreenYellow in Europe, and this initiative is a concrete illustration of our determination to accelerate the energy transition for Italian industrial players. By collaborating with partners such as Sasol, we are making a tangible contribution to the decarbonization of the industrial sector and building a more resilient energy future. »

A collaboration driven by sustainable energy performance

The Terranova dei Passerini solar project consolidates GreenYellow‘s position as a committed accelerator to the energy transition for corporates in Italy. Thanks to fully customized turnkey projects – including study, financing, installation, management and maintenance – this model allows corporates to focus on their core business, while entrusting GreenYellow with the technical and operational oversight of their installations with complete peace of mind and confidence.

The project is fully in line with GreenYellow’s development strategy, which aims to strengthen its presence in Europe and establish itself as the leader in decentralized solar.

“This project,” emphasizes Pierre Marouby, Country Manager of GreenYellow Italy, reinforces our ability to support industrial clients in their decarbonization journey. As energy is one of the main cost drivers for industry, we provide corporates with access to green, local, predictable and competitive electricity. Through flexible contractual models, such as on-site PPAs, we enable them to benefit from advantageous renewable energy, while reducing their exposure to market fluctuations and their dependence on the electricity grid. »
