GreenYellow Colombia and La Fazenda: a strategic alliance for sustainable agribusiness
GreenYellow Colombia is helping La Fazenda, one of Colombia’s leading agribusinesses, to deploy an energy-efficient industrial refrigeration solution at its production site in Puerto Gaitán, in the department of Meta.
An ambitious project to meet the challenges of sustainable growth
Faced with growing market demand, La Fazenda wanted to increase its pork production capacity,while reducing its environmental impact. The company thus went from 890,000 to almost 1,200,000 pigs produced per year, i.e. +35% capacity, without compromising quality or increasing its carbon emissions.
The client had a twofold challenge:

It’s against this backdrop that a #SHIFTEfficiency was set up by the GreenYellow Colombia teams.
Cutting-edge technology for energy efficiency
The project enabled the installation of a high-performance refrigeration system using ammonia (NH₃), a natural refrigerant with no effect on the ozone layer.
This system includes :

Two large cold rooms, capable of cooling up to 840 pigs after slaughter,

A processing area, dedicated to meat processing,

A shipping area with loading docks, facilitating the transfer of refrigerated products to trucks while maintaining the cold chain,

Two additional refrigeration zones,
-
And an ultra-fast “crust freezer”, which forms a thin layer of ice on the surface of products in just a few minutes to preserve their freshness and shape.
With a total cooling capacity of 556 tonnes, this device provides fast, efficient and energy-saving cooling, meeting industrial requirements while respecting the environment.
