GreenYellow signe un partenariat historique avec le groupe Carrefour pour la solarisation des parkings de 350 sites en France.
- GreenYellow, leader in decentralized energy transition, and Carrefour, a major international food retailer, have signed an ambitious agreement to solarize the parking lots of 350 of the retail giant’s hypermarkets and supermarkets in France by 2027.
- This ambitious project, with a total capacity of over 350 MW, will generate almost 450 GWh of clean, local energy per year, making it the largest decentralized solar power program in Europe.
Europe’s largest decentralized solar project
The 20-year contract calls for the installation of photovoltaic Solar Carports on the parking lots of 90 Carrefour hypermarkets and 260 supermarkets in France, representing the solarization of almost 180,000 parking spaces. The project will cover key regions: Normandy, Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
A strategic alliance for energy transition
GreenYellow brings its expertise as a highly-recognized solar operator in the retail sector, offering comprehensive support from design to installation and operation of the plants. Our commitment includes a performance guarantee throughout the contract, providing Carrefour with an efficient multi-site deployment. Thanks to our third-party financing model covering the entire investment, Carrefour will be able to accelerate its decarbonization trajectory and benefit from this transformation into an “as-a-Service” model. This ambitious project positions Carrefour at the forefront of solarization and decarbonization of its assets, and also meets the obligation for parking lots to be solarized, as set out in the French law on the acceleration of renewable energies. It will also enable Carrefour to reduce its dependence on fluctuating electricity prices, thanks to the self-consumption of part of the electricity produced.
“We are extremely proud of our long-term partnership with Carrefour, a leader in French and international retailing, for a project of unprecedented scope. I would like to thank Alexandre Bompard and his teams for their confidence, and our shareholder Ardian for their support. This emblematic project reinforces our commitment to the transition of major French and international companies towards energy independence, and in particular confirms our leading position in decentralized solar self-consumption.” says Otmane Hajji, President of GreenYellow.
This partnership underlines GreenYellow’s expertise in deploying turnkey programs, for large multi-site players welcoming the public, with an industrial approach.
The development phase will begin in July 2024, with the first commissionings scheduled for 2025. Half of the program will be completed by the end of 2026. Once completed, the project will generate 450 GWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of a city of 200,000 inhabitants.
“This program confirms GreenYellow’s leading role over the years in promoting self-consumption in France. We are now entering the operational phase, with the development and finalization of technical partner listings, as well as the creation of the global ecosystem that will enable us to deploy it”, says Mathieu CAMBET, Executive Vice President, in charge of Solar photovoltaic at GreenYellow France.
“We are delighted to be working with Carrefour. This solar partnership will support the group in significantly reducing their energy bill through self-consumption, contributing to Carrefour’s goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030, and anticipating the requirements of the ApER Law for parking lots over 1500 m². In addition, the photovoltaic Solar Carports will enhance the client experience by protecting them from the elements and the sun. This large-scale deployment on occupied sites confirms our winning self-consumption strategy, and illustrates our commitment to a greener, more sustainable future,” emphasizes Romain Butte, Managing Director of GreenYellow France.
