CPE, the energy performance contract

What is the CPE?

The CPE (Contrat de Performance Energétique) is a tool introduced under the Grenelle law that enables your company to improve the energy performance of its premises on a long-term basis. Short for "Energy Performance Contract", it enables your company to reduce its energy consumption by investing in works, modernizing equipment and/or activating services designed to improve a building's energy characteristics.

A key element in the ecological transition of companies and local communities, the CPE is formalized through a contract between your company and an energy services company, such as GreenYellow. The Energy Performance Contract guarantees improvements in energy performance over a defined period, and sets targets for reductions in energy costs and CO2 emissions. In this way, the EPC enables you to reduce your energy bill and your carbon footprint over the long term.

Thanks to Shift Efficiency, the EPCs tailor-made deployed by GreenYellow, you can reduce your energy consumption over the long term, without any investment on your part: your turnkey project is financed by the energy savings.

The contract details all the energy-saving actions that will be implemented, as well as the associated benefits.

With its Shift Efficiency offer, GreenYellow makes a contractual commitment and guarantees energy savings. In the event of non-attainment of targets, once energy-saving actions have been implemented, compensation will be paid to your company.

What does an energy performance contract (EPC) cover?

An Energy Performance Contract (EPC) can cover a single building or a group of buildings - warehouses, factories, stores, offices, municipal buildings, etc. - and include energy renovation work on the interior (replacing or optimizing your equipment) or exterior of the building. There are two main types of contract:

  • Energy Performance Contracting for supplies and services based on :
    • Improving building management systems (BMS), also known as centralized technical management (CTM)
    • Optimization of control devices (presence detector, brightness detector, regulation, speed variation, BMS, etc.).
    • Energy-saving actions
  • The "works and services" energy performance contract integrating :
    • Work on heating systems (boiler, heat pump, chiller, refrigeration units, HVAC, etc.)
    • Changes to exterior windows and doors

EPCs can also be global, i.e. including investments in both supplies and works. With the Shift Efficiency offer, EPCs carried out by GreenYellow are financed by the energy savings achieved. This means that no investment is required on the part of client .

Energy audit

The energy audit consists of a complete analysis of the energy consumption of the site(s) concerned. It defines the energy profile of the buildings and the reference situation on which energy efficiency targets are based. These targets generally relate to energy consumption or greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The audit identifies where energy savings can be made, and lists the energy-saving advice and investments needed to achieve quantified targets.

Optimizing energy performance

Thanks to GreenYellow's Shift Efficiency offer, our experts can provide you with turnkey solutions, taking care of everything from selecting and installing the most appropriate solutions and equipment for utility optimization. They also act as project managers for the consultation of service providers and the monitoring of energy optimization work.

Monitoring and controlling energy consumption

Throughout the term of your Energy Performance Contract (EPC), our Energy Managers track and monitor your sites' energy consumption and performance. Via EasyVision, one of our Shift Efficiency solutions, you can also track the energy consumption of your utilities.

EasyVision lets your company :

  • Centralized multi-site management
  • Detailed data consultation for all sites
  • Setting up alerts in the event of consumption drift
  • The implementation of appropriate actions by our Energy Managers as part of a continuous improvement process.
